To all the customers of The Scrapbook Station, I would like to say a heart-felt thank you. When Deb came home 3 years ago and asked me, do you think I should buy the Scrapbook Station, I asked her to look at the pros and cons, then look in her heart. She thought about it for a while then said, I think we can make this work. So, with a determination that nobody but Deb has, she put together a business plan and set out to make a place that anyone could feel comfortable at. Her generosity was boundless, often giving till it hurt. She wanted to outreach to the local schools and organizations, get as many people involved in the love of Scrapbooking as she could. The customer always came first, and was to always be treated with respect. I though to myself, as long as she is happy and loves what she is doing - she has my full support. There were times I would get "grumpy" cause the store was pretty much her life, but the customers would never see that side - her rules. The Scrapbook Station was her "Happy Place". She knew most customers by name and made it a point to greet everyone personally when they came in. She made it a point to truly listen to everyone that came in, and made her purchasing decisions on what you, the customer, said you wanted.
One of the striking things of this hobby is how talented people are, and watching Deb and her very remarkable staff coax that out of you. Try this, look at that - don't be afraid to ask about new techniques. Step out of your comfort zone. There are no rules in scrapbooking. Everyone is a beginner. Scraplifting. Tear that paper - don't be afraid. These are the comments that intrigued me. Perhaps this is something I could enjoy too...I always told everyone I spoke to during the opportunities I had to be at the store: I come from the photo album era - the time when pictures were just flopped in an album. If you were lucky the date was on them. No story, no journaling, no "embellishments". Just photos. Now I open those photo albums and say - who, what, why. Everything that is answered by a Scrapbook. It truly tells the story.
It saddens me to no end to see this chapter end, but Deb has my undying love and support. And, I believe the support of many of her customers (friends) that she has made these past years. I do truly believe that she will use the on-line store long enough to make a come back with a new and better storefront. The customer interaction is what made Deb come alive.
To all the employees past and present - thank you, thank you, thank you. I can not express in words how much each of you meant to Deb - and to me. You were always more than employees, and I hope that was communicated through words and deeds. I so appreciate all you have done.
There is a sign in The Scrapbook Station that I hung for her soon after she made the purchase - enter as strangers - leave as friends. I hope that everyone felt that way.
So, if you come today to say goodbye - do it with a smile. The Scrapbook Station is a "Happy Place" and will continue to be - now and in the future.
Thank you all again from the bottom of my heart -
Mr. Deb
